Why I’ve Been Quiet — And Why I’m Back

If you’ve been wondering where I’ve been, you’re not alone. Over the past few years, my absence from the industry and social media hasn’t been because I lost my passion for photography. Quite the opposite — it’s because I’ve had to direct that same passion and dedication toward something even more important: my family.

The Unseen Battle Behind the Scenes

Life has a way of shifting priorities, and when it does, you either adapt or let things fall apart. For me, adaptation meant stepping back from the public eye to focus on two monumental challenges.

First, my youngest son’s transition to high school was far from smooth. Being neurodivergent, he faced challenges that weren’t adequately addressed by the support system put in place at his primary school — a system that completely fell apart when the pandemic disrupted his education. What followed was an intense, emotionally draining journey to secure him an Education, Health, and Care Plan (EHCP). When that wasn’t enough, I fought to secure an Education Otherwise Than at School (EOTAS) package to give him the personalized support he needed. Winning that tribunal was just the beginning. I then had to design and implement a curriculum that would allow him to thrive — effectively becoming his headteacher while managing everything else life threw at me.

Simultaneously, my wife’s health declined dramatically. After three years of navigating a relentless cycle of doctors, specialists, and hospital visits, we’ve finally achieved a level of stability, but it has been a long, exhausting road.

Holding It All Together

Of course, I never completely stopped working — photography isn’t just my career, it’s who I am. But trying to balance caregiving, homeschooling, and managing my own declining health meant that something had to give. Social media and self-promotion were the sacrifices I made. As much as I wanted to stay connected, there simply weren’t enough hours in the day to keep all the plates spinning.

A New Chapter Begins

Now, with a little stability restored and a system that works (at least most days), I’m finally ready to reconnect. This new website is more than just a fresh digital space — it’s the beginning of a new phase where I’ll be sharing regular updates, insights, and of course, my usual bit of ‘edutainment.’ I may not be operating at the relentless pace of my ‘Olympus years,’ but I’m here, I’m focused, and I’m excited to share what’s next.

Over the coming months, I’ll be exploring new creative projects, diving into the growing fitness photography market, and continuing to share knowledge gained from my decades in high-end beauty photography. I’ll be bringing you behind the scenes, offering practical tips, and continuing to highlight the incredible work coming out of PPUK and MMoS.

So, if you’re here for top-tier photography knowledge, insight into how to navigate this ever-changing industry, and a bit of honest, no-nonsense commentary on the art and business of photography — you’re in the right place.

Thank you for your patience, your support, and for sticking with me. I’m back. Let’s do this.
