It amazes me how quickly the human animal forgets. Only a few short weeks ago we were all out together, clapping, letting off fireworks and cheering for our NHS, then complacency sets in and the very strange becomes the norm and we move on.
One of the constants in out life is our NHS from the cradle to the grave and if we are really lucky not too many times in-between. Fact is though most of us haven’t know a time that the NHS safety net wasn’t there, so again maybe we take it a little too much for granted.
I know, as an amputee, that without our NHS I simply wouldn’t be here and be able to write this, they have a really special and important place in my heart and that is why I wanted to do more than simply clap, seals can do that.
So that is why Lesley and I, along with a very special business friend came up with the “Photography without Frontiers” charity initiative, an initiative for the photographic industry to come together and get behind to raise funds for our NHS to help support our NHS.
The concept is very simple, together with over 100 of my colleagues up and down the country, we are offering you a swap you a donation, minimum amount £10 in return for a portrait session when it’s safe and appropriate to do so. We will even give you a social media sized image with the “I helped support our NHS” logo to turn social media NHS blue with our sincere thanks.
The amazing thing is that each studio, on top of making an initial donation, has pledged to add an extra £5 to every donation made. Now of course if you want to donate anything at all please feel free to do so, every penny counts, but if you want that sitting, and why wouldn’t you, this pandemic has taught us just how important our loved ones are to us, then its a minimum donation of just £10.
If they have a place in your heart you should have a space on your wall for them.
Now the charity initiative has only been running for a few weeks and “Photography without Frontiers has already raised over £4,000.00, I think that is an amazing achievement, be we are greedy to raise more for our NHS and record those amazing bonds ,only a portrait can capture forever, for you.
I received an email from the charity thanking us for the money raised so far and giving me an insight into what the money gets spent on, I thought I’d share a little of it with you all.
“Your support has helped to provide tablets so patients can communicate with their loved ones and feel less isolated. You have helped to kit out Wobble Rooms, which are dedicated areas of hospitals where staff can go for rest and relaxation during busy shifts. And your fundraising has funded games and activities to support young patients in mental health wards and in the community who are most likely to be adversely affected by the outbreak of Coronavirus due to increased isolation. Thank you.”
How incredibly humbling.
If you’d like to contribute, swap a tenner for a portrait shoot, or just find out a little more then please follow the link:

This is an important initiative for us all, so any help you can give wold be greatly appreciated, even if it’s only spreading the word. I’d love to create an awesome portrait of you and yours for you. If they are important to you, you really should make the effort.
I’ll leave you with a portrait of an extremely beautiful lady, not bad for 63 (human years) is she, time very cruelly ticks by far too quickly, we must capture every memory important to us.
Till next time.
Damian
