As I am sure you will have heard by now, Olympus have announced the newest addition to their OM-D range – the OM-D EM10 Mark 2.
I have put the EM10 Mark 2 through it’s paces in some real world shooting scenarios – the camera has been with me whilst I have been wandering round the streets and market places of Costa Teguise; the volcanic landscapes of the Canary Islands; and it has even been at my side whilst I have been doing a spot of “urbexing” in York. The compact form of the camera has made it a real pleasure to use – the lightweight yet robust design has meant I have been able to concentrate on getting myself in to the areas that I want to get creative in without feeling weighed down and restricted. I have been able to keep the Mark 2 in my pocket all day long which has allowed me to make the most of every shooting opportunity that I have been presented with. This is a big thumbs up from my point of view, because as we all know that the best camera is the one that you have with you, and you can quite literally have this camera with you all of the time!
As you would expect with any technological evolution, the EM10 Mark 2 has had many of the features that were found in and on the Mark 1 improved upon; these improvements have seen continuous auto focus get even better; sequential shooting now allows 8.5 frames per second capture; the back touch screen become more sensitive and have lag time reduced to allow faster focusing and image capture; and the resolution of the electronic viewfinder has been increased to 2.36 million dots. The design team have also added some new features into the latest addition to the Olympus OM-D range which are exclusive to this model – such as the Auto Focus Tracking pad, Focus Bracketing and High Speed Movie.

Whenever I get a new camera in my hands the first thing I want to know is how good the image files that it produces are – it’s all well and good having a camera that is super easy and a pleasure to use, but if the image quality isn’t up to muster the afore mentioned is irrelevant in my eyes. In this department, the lightweight EM10 Mark 2 delivers a heavy weight punch and produces image files that are a fantastic quality. Below you can see some of the examples that I have shot on the latest addition to the OM-D range:
I cannot express enough how much of a pleasure it has been shooting those images on this camera. The EM10 Mark 2 has been an absolute joy to use and it’s compact form has allowed me to get myself in to positions from which to be creative without being restricted.
But is hasn’t just been the stunning stills that the EM10 Mark 2 captures that has had me impressed… The new videography features have had me captivated and have really encouraged me to broaden my horizons and let my inner Steven Spielberg come to the surface and have a play! I have really enjoyed using the High Speed Movie feature to create some short slow motion clips in camera, and I have also had a great time using the Time Lapse feature. The OM-D EM10 Mark 2 is an example of Olympus brining “evolution and revolution” to the table yet again. Having had a good amount of hands on time with the new camera, I think it is safe to say that I am rather smitten and that I will be keeping it with me as my “walk around” camera for the foreseeable future. If you are looking for a small camera to travel with that doesn’t compromise on image quality and has a few creative tricks up it’s sleeve the EM10 Mark 2 is definitely worth checking out.
