Its no secret that when I got involved with the original m4/3’s EM-5 it was a little bit of a culture shock to my decades of “pro photography”, to me it was almost as much of an upheaval as the transition from medium format to 35mm, or indeed from film to digital. In other words, it was a culture shock!
Olympus UK even made a booklet with a quote on the cover from yours truly saying “I didn’t want to like” it… It rocked my sensibilities, it challenged my preconceptions… it was revolutionary.
Back then, I’d only just really started my journey as Olympus principal and everything was “mind blowing” it was all new and different. Fast forward and the truth is I couldn’t live with out many of the features and the advantages that my beloved Olympus cameras give me, the truth is for what I do I’d never take the backwards step to a bigger DSLR with an optical viewfinder. To me it would be a little like giving my Jaguar up for a pony and trap but I accept thats just my personal opinion.
One of the privileges of my position as Olympus principal photographer is the fact I get to test stuff “early doors”. I know many will say I’m bound to say this because of my association with the manufacturer but I’m simply amazed at what the mark 2 brings to the party. You can see in my brief overview of features in the unboxing that this light weight camera sports an even greater heavyweight punch.

Look the simple truth is this… it doesn’t really matter what anybody says about new kit, take it all with a pinch of salt, UNTIL you can get your hands on one, try it and evaluate it for yourself. I’m convinced but don’t take my word for it, have a go and see for yourself.
We are dedicated to letting you do just this, you wouldn’t swap cars without a decent test drive and a good camera is far more important than a car ;0)
